At certain points in our lives, many of us realize we’re not taking such good care of ourselves as we should be. When I came to that realization, I reflected on my current priorities, and thought about whether they were really focused on my health. I made a lengthy list of the ways I could contribute to my overall well-being, from working on my mental stability to helping the body regain its strength and health.
Admitting there’s a problem is the first step
No great change can happen in our life unless we first decide that we want it to happen. I knew I couldn’t succeed in anything without the necessary willingness and determination. Yes, the road to success is a difficult one, but it is so rewarding when you achieve it and realize that you’ve made a great long-term investment!
Turning your personal space into a warm home
Time for a big clean up! Despite the fact that I loved my home and my personal space, I wasn’t doing much to keep it neat and free of clutter, so it was gradually getting out of hand. It reflected the chaos I was getting into, the lack of dedicating enough time to myself or failure to tend to my needs. Once I implemented the necessary changes, my home suddenly started feeling like one more and more each day. Apart from that, I realized that it has also helped me sort out the clutter of stressful thoughts. So, the key idea is to rearrange your surroundings so that you can regain your piece of mind.
Protecting yourself from harmful things
Improving your health cannot go without implementing detox. The list I mentioned earlier also included getting rid of harmful foods and beverages, and substituting them with equally tasty and affordable ones. I set aside time for cooking homemade meals, and went back to vegetables, fruit, water… I started making a list of all the meals I like preparing that are easy to make and also highly nutritious and rich in vitamins. I began using dietary supplements, and introduced efficient CoQ10 capsules to my lifestyle; this antioxidant supports the production of energy, and helps strengthen the immune system and improve cardiovascular health.
Spending more quality time outdoors
Since I realized I wasn’t spending nearly as much time engaged in the outdoor activities I enjoyed, I decided to use that as an opportunity to do something positive for my body. For example, my friends and I started jogging, power-walking, or riding endlessly fun cruiser skateboard. Some of us clumsy, others not so much, still we all had tons of fun while joking, laughing, breathing in some fresh air. Above all, we were doing something really good for our physical health as well. So, give your friend or relative a call, go out there, and bond!
Surrounding yourself with pleasant smells
The power of scents is truly remarkable, and we can see that any time a specific smell tickles our nose and takes us back to a completely different phase in our past. I used that power to my advantage and slowly began exposing myself to the smells that I knew would evoke pleasantness and happy memories. I made my apartment even cozier with a few potted flowers I really liked, I began using essential oils, and placed lavender sachets in closets, drawers, and other areas that I wanted to give a touch of warmth. All of that helped me relax much more easily and get rid of any stress I was feeling at a given moment. It is highly therapeutic; you can enjoy the smells of freshly cut fruit, grass in springtime, flowers or trees, as these have a certain beneficial effect on us.
Such self-improvement projects, although demanding, really contribute to how we perceive ourselves. If we’re persistent and succeed, the feeling of fulfillment and strength they bring is invaluable.
